After taking four cohorts of writers through the Fantasy Writing Bootcamp, we’ve developed a system to help you master every aspect of the craft.
By the end of the 12-week program, the big-picture aspects of your story – like your characters, plot, worldbuilding, and theme – will all be fully developed in the most compelling way possible.
Thanks to the weekly feedback you’ll receive on your story, the sentence-level details of your writing (your descriptions, dialogue, prose, scene design, etc.) will be just as strong as well.
Most importantly, you will be able to avoid all the common problems mentioned above.

What is the Fantasy Writing Bootcamp?
The Fantasy Writing Bootcamp is a 12-week live program designed to help fantasy writers create a complete scene-by-scene outline, begin writing their first draft, and improve their craft with ongoing guidance and feedback.
Who is the Bootcamp for?
It is for fantasy writers who have a story idea or an unfinished novel and want a clearer structure, consistent progress, and expert support. You can benefit whether you are outlining, drafting, or revising your story.
What will I accomplish during the 12 weeks?
You'll develop a complete outline for your novel using Jed's Hourglass Outlining Method, strengthen your writing process, and make meaningful progress on your first draft. The goal is to get you as close to writing "The End" as possible, while building habits you can keep using long after the program ends.
Will I finish my entire first draft in 12 weeks?
Finishing depends on your novel, starting point, writing pace, and available time, so completing a full draft cannot be guaranteed. You will leave with a clear outline, stronger momentum, and a practical system for continuing until your manuscript is finished.
Do I need to have my novel completely planned before joining?
No. The Bootcamp helps you develop your story into a complete scene-by-scene outline before turning that plan into pages. You can join with an early idea, a few chapters, or an unfinished manuscript.
What is the Hourglass Outlining Method?
It's Jed Herne's approach to outlining a fantasy novel. Rather than locking you into one direction, it lets you quickly test different versions of your story and develop your characters and plot together, so you can find the strongest version before you commit months to writing it.
What support and feedback will I receive?
The program includes live teaching, office hours, personalized coaching feedback, and opportunities for peer critique. This allows you to identify story problems and improve your work while you are actively writing.
Who is Jed Herne?
Jed Herne is a fantasy author and writing coach who has written four fantasy novels, published short stories, worked on a video game, and authored the number-one Amazon bestselling book Plotting Your Fantasy Novel. He has also built an audience of more than 160,000 writers and delivered over 1,000 hours of live coaching.
How do I join the Bootcamp?
Start by submitting an application. If the program appears to be a good fit, you will be invited to a free story consult call with Jed's team to discuss your novel, your goals, and whether the Bootcamp is right for you.
Are places limited?
Yes. This is planned to be the final cohort, places are limited, and more than 300 writers have joined the waitlist. Applications are reviewed as they arrive, so applying early gives you the best opportunity to be considered.
